Clara was born November 28, 1934, in Washington, Oklahoma. As the eldest of six children born to Carl Lee and Clara Inez (Taylor) Bratcher, she was nurtured in a warm and loving home. After the family returned to Washington following a few years in California, Clara's formative years were spent in Washington, culminating in her graduation from Washington Schools in 1953. Her life's journey intertwined with that of her classmate, Bobby Dean Hawkins, whom she met in the fifth grade. Their friendship blossomed, and despite the delightful contrast of Clara’s petite stature and Bob’s tall presence, they made an endearing couple and began dating as seniors in high school. Their bond deepened, and on August 7, 1953, Clara and Bob were united in marriage in Norman, Oklahoma. They knew each other for 81 years and celebrated a beautiful journey of 72 years of marriage together, a testament to their enduring love. Throughout their lives, the couple found solace and strength in their faith, attending the Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years, with the last 24 years spent at Calvary Holiness Church in Purcell. Clara cherished her connection to her church family and the spiritual foundations it provided. An unwavering lover of puzzles, Clara displayed a keen intellect as she diligently worked on crossword puzzles, always eager to conquer the challenging sections in newspapers. Her adventurous spirit led her and Bob to explore all 50 states and Canada in their RV. They were able to take serveral cruises and even ventured to China with Bob’s sister and husband, where they walked the Great Wall, creating memories that will eternally echo in the hearts of those who loved her. An avid skier, both on snow and water, Clara family always joked that she was so good because she didn’t have as far to fall as the rest of them. She relished in the joys of playing games and in spirited rounds of Dominos with friends and family. Music, particularly the Gospel melodies sung by her siblings, filled her life with harmony and warmth. Yet, above all, Clara's greatest treasure was the time spent with her family. She delighted in gathering with loved ones and attending her children's ball games, celebrating their achievements with pride. Clara’s life was a life devoted to love, family, adventure, and faith. Her legacy will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have known her, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories we hold dear.
