Dr. Edward Allen Lee, affectionately known as Doc, died January 13, 2026, in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years 2 months 24 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Doc was born October 20, 1940, in Sacramento, California to William Earl and Omi (Fore) Lee. His early years spent in the nurturing community of Purcell, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1957, laying the groundwork for a life dedicated to service and compassion. Doc was inducted into the United States Marines in 1957, proudly serving until his honorable discharge in 1961. On October 4, 1959, Doc exchanged vows with Kay Francis Couchman in California, embarking on a deeply devoted partnership that thrived for 48 beautiful years until Kay's passing in 2008. With this union, he experienced the joys of family life, which were at the heart of his being. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the esteemed University of Oklahoma, he earned his doctorate, and earning his license as a physician. His commitment in the field of medicine helped him build his thriving medical practice in Purcell, as he cherished the relationships he forged with countless patients and their families. His dedication was further evident through unwavering support for local sports, serving as the school physician and standing proudly on the sidelines of many thrilling Dragon events. He proudly sponsored and coached little league baseball for many years. An enthusiast of the University of Oklahoma athletics, Doc held season tickets both football and basketball, passionately cheering for the Sooners. He found joy in various pursuits, golfing, hunting, relishing good music, and cruising around in his beloved red Corvette. Embracing life anew, Doc found a second love, marrying Brenda Buterbaugh on May 22, 2019, in Conway, Arkansas. Together, they created cherished memories filled with laughter and companionship. Above all, Doc's greatest treasure was his family. He reveled in every moment spent with them, ensuring that his legacy of love and kindness would resonate through generations. Doc Lee will forever be remembered not only for his professional dedication but also for his generous spirit and the warmth he brought to the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His indelible mark on the hearts of his loved ones will continue to shine brightly.
Doc is preceded in death by his father, William Earl Lee; his mother, Omi Lee Campbell; his wife, Kay Francis Lee; his son, William Mark Lee; and his son-in-law, Ramon Hernandez. Survivors include his wife, Brenda; his son, Michael Allen Lee and wife, Tammy; his daughter, Susan Kay Soto and husband, Juan; his son, Edward Allen Lee and wife, Monique; his almost sons, Randy Clayton, Randy Cofer and wife, Zita; his 22 grandchildren; his 23 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
