Maria Delia Olguin Perez, born on May 18, 1956, in Col. Gonzalez Ortega, Zacatecas, Mexico, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, who touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Maria was the cherished daughter of Roberto and Sabina Olguin. At the tender age of 15, she married Mr. Benjamin Piedra, with whom she welcomed six beloved children: Nora, Juan, Monica, Martin, Benjamin Jr., and Ilda. Throughout her life, Maria embraced the world around her, living in various places including Mexico, California, Alaska, and finally settling in Oklahoma for over 30 years. In her later years, Maria found love once again when she married Jose Almarez. Together, they created countless beautiful memories, relishing in their shared passion for cooking and exploring new places. Maria’s home was always filled with laughter, love, and the aromas of her delicious meals, which were a cornerstone in bringing her family together. A woman of deep faith, Maria found solace in her nightly readings of the Bible. She was known for her unwavering belief in helping anyone in need, reflecting her compassionate spirit. Maria had many interests, including cooking, gardening, and singing; however, her greatest joy came from her family. She embraced her role as a mother wholeheartedly, often reminding others that she was “even better” as a grandmother. Her grandchildren, each unique and cherished, filled her heart with immense love. The older ones were dazzled by the lively spirit of their grandmother, while the younger ones reveled in her gentle nurturing, especially during their treasured movie sleepover nights together. In the eyes of her family, Maria stood as a beacon of love and wisdom. She imparted lifelong lessons, filling their lives with invaluable knowledge that will continue to resonate through generations. The holidays will be forever altered by her absence, as her delicious cooking and guiding presence will be profoundly missed. Maria leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a strong familial bond that will endure. While she may no longer walk among us, the memories and lessons she shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Roberto and Sabina Olguin and her children, Monica Piedra and Martin Piedra. Maria is survived by her husband, Jose Almarez; her children, Nora Vasquez and husband, Antonio of Noble, Oklahoma, Juan Piedra and wife, Crystal of Purcell, Oklahoma, Benjamin Piedra Jr of Slaughtersville, Oklahoma, Ilda Piedra and husband, Daniel Herman of Norman, Oklahoma; her grandchildren: Irene, Sergio, Adrian, Antonio Jr, Victoria, Asael, Daniel, Gigi and Yaya; her great-grand-children: Selena and Esmeralda; her siblings: Jairo, Polo, Chuy, Roberto, Juana, and Alejandro Olguin Perez, all of Zacatecas, Mexico; and numerous other family and friends.
