Michael Aaron Slate died peacefully May 17, 2026, in Lexington, Oklahoma at the age of 66 years 2 months 11 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Banner Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Mike was born March 6, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Leonard Samuel and Wanda Jean (O’Bryant) Slate. Raised and educated in the close-knit community of Noble, Mike’s life was a testament to dedication and warmth. Over the years, he applied his talents across various roles—most notably serving as a produce manager with Food 4 Less for eight years, contributing fifteen years as a general laborer at G&M Tank Co., and, since 2012, managing the business office at Slate Septic with steadfast commitment. Mike’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He found immense joy in music and attending concerts, particularly in the melodies of Heart and Bonnie Raitt, collecting memorabilia that reflected his admiration. A gifted cook, he delighted in preparing meals and cherishing precious moments with family, especially his beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. His love for animals, enthusiasm for OU Football and the OKC Thunder, and his genuine joy in meeting new people spoke to a spirit both outgoing and kindhearted. Among his favorite retreats was The Mont in Norman, where friends and family often gathered to share laughter over margaritas or swirls, great food, and heartfelt conversation. Mike’s life was a beautiful celebration of community, music, and love—a legacy that will resonate deeply with all who knew him.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Len and Wanda Slate; his sisters, Lynda Kinney and Brenda Songer; and his nephew, Samuel Slate. Survivors include his sister, Debbie Slate; his brother, Billy Slate; his fur babies, Sissy and Buddy; his 13 nieces and nephews; his 30 plus great nieces and nephews; and numerous relatives and friends.
