Norma Jean Owens

January 19, 1924 — March 24, 2024

Lexington, OK

Norma Jean Owens went home to be with her Lord on March 24, 2024, at the age of 100 years 2 months 5 days.  Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Lexington Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Norma graced this world as the eldest of eight siblings born to Lee and Mildred (Bryant) Hawkins on January 19, 1924. It was in the beautiful tapestry of life that she crossed paths with the love of her life, Thurman Owens. Their hearts intertwined, and on October 21, 1941, they exchanged vows, embarking on a sacred union that spanned 66 years until Thurman's peaceful departure in 2007.  Through the ebbs and flows of existence, Norma and Thurman established their abode in Oklahoma City for numerous years. In 1973, Norma embraced a well-deserved retirement from Western Electric, marking a new chapter as they ventured to Lexington, where they planted their roots until Thurman's eventual parting. A devout member of the Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Lexington, Norma's spirit found solace and community within its hallowed walls.  Norma’s legacy resonates not only through her familial bonds but also through the kindness she wholeheartedly shared with all who crossed her path. Her unwavering faith illuminated even the darkest of days and her enduring love continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Mildred Hawkins; her husband, Thurman Owens; her brothers, Bob Hawkins, Lewis Hawkins, Kenneth Hawkins, Lonnie Hawkins; her grandson, Gregory Don Owens; and her granddaughter, Becky Jackson.
