Rodney was born December 23, 1960, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Arthur Simon and Clara Ada (Sullivan) Nelson. Raised in Purcell, Rodney’s life unfolded across six and a half decades, each year bearing witness to his steadfast spirit and gentle heart. From his earliest days, Rodney worked for the Pink Poodle Café and Chickasaw Hills Café in Purcell. He became known as a soul who valued connection and integrity, cultivating friendships and relationships grounded in sincerity and kindness. Rodney later flourished in working on electronic, such as TV’s and printers. Never meeting a stranger and loving everyone, he drew people into conversation by his characteristic smile or inspired by his innate humility, those fortunate enough to cross paths with Rodney found an individual upon whom they could always depend. The tapestry of Rodney’s life is interwoven with steady threads of dedication and authenticity. He was a member of Grace Chapel in Lexington, that then became New Beginnings Fellowship. His values, molded by the local character of southern Oklahoma, guided him through every season. He represented a generation for whom hard work was a birthright and generosity a given. Rodney was ever-present in the lives of those around him—a confidant, a supporter, and an unwavering source of encouragement. Rodney enjoyed a good western, the excitement of wrestling, and knife shows on the television. He loved his family and his little dog, Wiggles. Though many years were granted to Rodney, they now seem all too fleeting in the glow of our remembrance.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara Nelson; his sister, Cindy Richardson; and his brother, Randy Nelson. Survivors include his niece, Marilyn Nelson; and her children William, Zachery, Tyler, and Victory; special friends, April and Taft; and numerous other relatives and friends.
