Lloyd Sherman

Lloyd Rex Sherman died Monday, March 14, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years 7 months 14 days.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Lloyd was born July 30, 1944, in Hope, Arkansas to William Royce and Virginia Marie (Gregory) Sherman. He was raised in Columbia Council, Arkansas, graduating from school in Waldo, Arkansas.  Lloyd earned his associates in Applied Science degree in 1979.  He started working an early age, supporting himself by working in the Gulf Coast oilfields. Lloyd then worked as a miner, where he met his first wife, Rita Jean Coker.  He was inducted into the United States Army and served his country with three tours in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the military, Lloyd began his career in law enforcement, working as a police officer in Lancaster, TX.  He married Janice Gayle Wittie.  Lloyd also served as the police chief in Waxahachie, TX.  In 1982, he married Mary Lou Woods in Lancaster, TX before relocating to Purcell, OK, where he worked for the Purcell Police Department for over 17 years.  Lloyd and Mary were married for 38 years before Mary’s passing in 2021.  Lloyd was an avid coffee drinker, who loved to go hunting, fishing, and shoot guns. He had a knack for raising birds and training them to do tricks. Retirement allowed Lloyd to spend more time on his hobbies and with his grandchildren and his beloved pets.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Sherman; his wife, Mary Lou Sherman; his stepdaughter, Lynne Robertson; his brothers, William Sherman Jr., Gary Sherman, and Warren Sherman.  Survivors include his daughter, Rita Willis; his son, Kenneth Sherman; his son, William Sherman; his daughter, Virginia Sherman; his stepson, Michael Dodson; his brother, Steven Robert Sherman; his brother, Kevin Ross Sherman; his brother, Paul Reed Sherman; his 10 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
