Roberta Green died March 21, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years 11 months 24 days. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Roberta was born March 28, 1933, in Ada, Oklahoma to Theodore and Mary Elizabeth (Scott) Alford. She was raised in Purcell by her grandmother, Izora Midgett. On June 11, 1948, she married Esau Green in Purcell. They moved to San Diego, where Roberta finished school. She continued her education at Grossmont Vocational School for Nursing, graduating in 1966. Roberta and Esau raised their family and fostered over a hundred children throughout their marriage. They were married for 45 years before Esau’s passing in 2003. Roberta loved her family and enjoyed her work as a pediatric nurse. She was a caregiver in every aspect of life and took care of her grandmother when she became ill until her passing in 1972, and then when her mother became ill until her passing in 2001. Roberta was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Norman, serving as Church Mother and wrote “Food for Thought” every week. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ada B. Cleveland Chapter 71. Roberta enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, reading, singing, traveling, and occasionally going to a casino. Roberta enjoyed phone calls from her grandchildren every Sunday, and family members coming to visit her.
Roberta is preceded in death by her father, Theodore Alford; her mother, Mary Elizabeth Sanders; her husband, Esau Green; her grandsons, Gwen’s 2 sons, Jimmy Marvin Givens, Jr., Marvin Givens, Richard’s son, Richard Bellemy; her great grandson, Asiatae son, Demichan Raymond Love, her infant sister; and her special aunt and uncle who helped raise her, Ledrue “Bud” and Joyce Scott. Survivors include her son, Richard Leslie Green of Harrah; her son, Calvern Franklin Green of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter, Ella Colbert of Purcell; her daughter, Gwendolyn Muhammad of Purcell; her daughter, Beverly LaFargue and husband, Vincent of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter, Spacetta Van of San Jose, CA; her daughter, Dr. Joyce Walker and husband, Dr. Herman of Washington, DC, and Lisa Van, Joyce and Spacetta’s sister who loved Roberta, of Oklahoma City; her 13 grandchildren, Tracie, Tremese, Yolanda, Shea, Calvern Jr., Michelle, Arnad, Sharrieff, Sumayyah, Ishmael, Miesha, Asiatae, William; her 36 great grandchildren; special friends, Johnnie and Dee White, Earlene Swan; and numerous other relatives and friends.
